George Farrar established the business in 1880 as a natural stone supplier. Northowram Hills Quarry, near Halifax, Yorkshire, was one of the first quarries owned by the Farrar family and is still in operation today, although now is one of many quarries in the Farrar Natural Stone supplier quarry group. Northowram was first worked by mining out the flagstone areas underground and filling as they went. Our quarries now supply both flagrock and dimensional blockstone. The main production facility, based in Keighley, West Yorkshire, was purchased by Farrar Natural Stone supplier in 1938. The works have had a rolling programme of investment in computerised, hi-tech equipment as part of the Farrar Natural Stone commitment to continuous improvement. Overhead cranes, programmable circular saws, diamond tipped monoblades and frame saws, guillotines, texturing and tooling machinery and a masons’ shop have all been installed and continually upgraded to improve production and give a faster, more efficient service. Today, five generations on from the establishment of the business, Chairman Richard Farrar and his son Ben, Managing Director, are taking the company further into the 21st century. At Farrar Natural Stone we offer a complete service from stone specifications, providing assistance with the design and procurement, through quarrying and selection of block to manufacture and masoning of the finished product.
